Group Coaching to Support Pyramid Model Implementation: A Virtual Tour of Materials

This webinar will highlight the newly released group coaching materials available through the National Center for Pyramid Innovations. Presenters will provide a virtual tour of the package. Materials are included for 8 group coaching meetings for practitioners to learn about: social-emotional teaching practices, planning to implement a practice, sharing video, reflection, and providing feedback to peers on their use of the practices. Presenters will review the structure and sequence of the group coaching meetings and provide helpful tips for getting organized with the group coaching materials.

Mary Louise Hemmeter

Vanderbilt University

Mary Louise Hemmeter, PhD, is a professor of Special Education at Vanderbilt University. Her research focuses on effective instruction, social emotional development and challenging behavior, and coaching teachers. She has been a PI or Co-PI on numerous projects funded by the US Departments of Education and Health and Human Services. Through her work on the National Center on the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning and IES funded research projects, she was involved in the development of the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Young Children and a model for coaching teachers to implement effective practices. She is currently the PI on an IES funded development project around program wide supports for implementing the Pyramid Model and a Co-PI on an IES efficacy study examining approaches to supporting teachers to implement embedded instruction. She was co-editor of the Journal of Early Intervention and President of the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division for Early Childhood. She received the Mary McEvoy Service to the Field Award.

Sarah Basler

Vanderbilt University

Sarah Basler is an education consultant at Vanderbilt University across projects in the Hemmeter lab. On the Education Innovation, and Research grant in partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, Sarah works as an external coach. She provides support to the coaches to implement Practice-Based Coaching around Pyramid Model practices. Sarah also supports the National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (NCECDTL) as a facilitator of the Practice-Based Coaching community on MyPeers and provides training for the Coaching Corner Webinar Series. She previously served as a coach and IV data manager on the Embedded Instruction for Early Learning project. Prior to joining Hemmeter lab, Sarah was an Assistant Director of a university childcare program, a curriculum coordinator, and an early childhood teacher.

Letitia Bandy

Metro Action Commission Head Start

Letitia Bandy is originally from Montclair New Jersey, and has been living in Nashville since 2015. Currently, she serves as an Education Coach/Trainer for Head Start. Letitia found her niche in education over 20 years ago as a substitute teacher. During this time, she worked with 5th and 6th graders as well as served preschoolers for 8 years. In addition to classroom experience, she has served as a center director, special education coordinator, education manager, birth to three specialist, mentor, coach, and trainer. Letitia was fortunate enough to have had a phenomenal coach and mentor during her own certification process while pursuing her degrees as a classroom teacher. That experience drives her passion for teacher education and support to this day.

Erika Breshears

MCCAA Head Start

Erika is the Staff Development and Training Coordinator for MCCAA Head Start in Tennessee. Erika worked as an Early Head Start teacher for 8 years before becoming a Mentor Coach for 2 years with an Early Head Start program in N.E. Louisiana. She transitioned to Tennessee and worked with MCCAA Head Start as a Staff Development Coach for 2 years until beginning her current role. Erika loves Head Start, the families they serve, and the privilege of helping children meet their full potential. She loves coaching teachers and is excited to grow in her role of coaching coaches!

Britany Hobbs

Metro Action Commission Head Start

Britany Hobbs is an Early Education Mentor Coach for Metro Action Commission Head Start. Britany is a native of Memphis, TN and received her Bachelor of Science in Child Development from Tennessee State University. Britany was a three-year old Head Start teacher for 7 years before becoming a Coach. She has worked with Vanderbilt and Practice Based Coaching since Fall of 2019. She is an advocate for Group-Based Coaching, as it provides practical collaboration amongst teachers and coaches. Britany gives credit to Practice-Based Group Coaching for her success in building meaningful relationships and successful teacher outcomes.
