NCPMI resources are open source meaning they can be translated and adapted to fit your organization\u2019s needs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Before your organization translates a resource&#8230; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to the NCPMI <a href=\"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/resources\/\">Resource Library<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/pyramid-nation\/community\/share\">Community Contributions page<\/a> to see if a translation by another organization already exists.&#8217;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fill out the <a href=\"#notify\">translation notification form<\/a>, below.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Once you begin translation&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Review NCPMI&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/NCPMI_branding_guidelines_ADA.pdf\">Branding and Accessibility Guide<\/a> for standards to keep the document ADA accessible (e.g., minimum font sizes) and a glossary of common Pyramid Model terms (for Spanish translations).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review our <a href=\"#considerations\">translation considerations<\/a> to make sure your translation is culturally responsive to the community you serve.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>IMPORTANT: <strong>Make sure to include the translation statement <\/strong>on the translated document.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-26abd1dc\">\n<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-24afc47a\">\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"statement\">IMPORTANT: Include a Translation Statement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Include a translation statement at the bottom of the document, just above the funding statement. This will help those who are distributing the resource identify the resource and language. It should include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>the name of the document in English<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>name of the language of the translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>group or person credited with the translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>date of translation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>NCPMI translation disclaimer: &#8220;NCPMI makes no guarantees as to the accuracy of the translation.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">This is the recommended format:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Translation of [[TITLE]] into [[LANGUAGE]] performed by [[CREDIT]] on [[DATE]]. This will ensure that we work as a community and not duplicate our efforts. Consider making cultural adaptations to make the material appropriate for the audience. Translate for meaning in a culturally sensitive way. This will make the material clearer and less confusing. Ensure the translator has knowledge of the readers\u2019 culture and language patterns. Please refer to other translated works in the <a href=\"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/resources\">NCPMI Resource Library<\/a> for content specific translation. These might be helpful to provide to your translator in advance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please prepare the translation in the same format as the original document. Many of our resources and materials are in PDF format. While we cannot share the original Adobe InDesign files, you can edit within the PDF. If you do this, please do your best to keep to a similar format. You can refer to our <a href=\"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/NCPMI_branding_guidelines_ADA.pdf\">style guide<\/a> for guidelines on the use of colors, font, and logos.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure accessibility of translations. Reading skill of the audience is important to keep in mind.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Consider translation best practices such as using back translation and multiple translators to ensure high quality. Some translation agencies already do this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Carefully edit and proofread your translation before disseminating to audiences. Be sure not to omit any author names or other parts of the original document.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>NCPMI values organizations translating our materials into other languages.
