{"id":155,"date":"2022-01-06T19:14:02","date_gmt":"2022-01-06T19:14:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/box2233.temp.domains\/~cfscommu\/challengingbehavior\/?page_id=155"},"modified":"2023-12-15T18:08:01","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T18:08:01","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/challengingbehavior.org\/pyramid-model\/overview\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Research"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"gb-container gb-container-9bfa06ff card\">\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Research on implementation of the Pyramid Model shows:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong class=\"child-1\">Children<\/strong> have <strong class=\"child-1\">better social skills<\/strong> and less problem behavior in Pyramid Model classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-small-font-size\"><strong class=\"teacher-1\">Teachers<\/strong> are able to <strong class=\"teacher-1\">implement Pyramid Model practices better<\/strong> if they receive training and practice-based coaching.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Pyramid Model Research\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/hIt8Ud5HfAk?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Mary Louise Hemmeter discusses the research that shows that the Pyramid Model is effective for supporting children&#8217;s social-emotional development, and preventing and addressing their challenging behavior.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"florida-and-tennessee-randomized-study-of-2011\">Florida and Tennessee randomized study results published in 2016<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The study was conducted within public school classrooms (40 classrooms and 494 children) enrolling preschool children with and without disabilities in Florida and Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"research-findings\">Research Findings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Teachers in the experimental condition who received training and coaching demonstrated statistically significant differences in their implementation of Pyramid Model practices.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Children enrolled in the experimental classrooms implementing the Pyramid Model demonstrated statistically significant differences in their social skills. &nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Target children in the experimental classrooms had statistically significant reductions in problem behavior.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Florida and Tennessee randomized study results published in 2021<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This study was conducted within public school classrooms enrolling children with and without disabilities (92 classrooms and 997 children) in Florida and Tennessee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research Findings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Preschool children identified with problem behavior were rated by teachers as having greater improvement in their behavior in Pyramid Model classrooms than children in the control classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preschool children identified with problem behavior were rated by teachers in Pyramid Model classrooms as having greater improvement in their social skills than children in the control classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Preschool children identified with problem behavior in Pyramid Model classrooms were observed to have greater growth in their positive social interactions than children in the control classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>All children in the Pyramid Model classrooms were rated by teachers as having greater growth in their social skills than children in the control classrooms.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teachers who received training and coaching in the Pyramid Model implemented the Pyramid Model practices and continued to use the practices a year after coaching ended.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These findings have been published.&nbsp; See the following articles for more information:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hemmeter, M.
