Practice Based Coaching (PBC) can be delivered in a variety of ways to build teachers’ capacity to implement Pyramid Model practices in their classroom. In past webinars, we discussed how PBC is delivered individually. In this webinar, we invite a coach with experience using PBC in a group format. Panelists will discuss the benefits, the structure and process, and share teacher perspectives to using this approach.

Mary Louise Hemmeter
Mary Louise Hemmeter, PhD, is a professor of Special Education at Vanderbilt University. Her research focuses on effective instruction, social emotional development and challenging behavior, and coaching teachers. She has been a PI or Co-PI on numerous projects funded by the US Departments of Education and Health and Human Services. Through her work on the National Center on the Social Emotional Foundations for Early Learning and IES funded research projects, she was involved in the development of the Pyramid Model for Supporting Social Emotional Competence in Young Children and a model for coaching teachers to implement effective practices. She is currently the PI on an IES funded development project around program wide supports for implementing the Pyramid Model and a Co-PI on an IES efficacy study examining approaches to supporting teachers to implement embedded instruction. She was co-editor of the Journal of Early Intervention and President of the Council for Exceptional Children’s Division for Early Childhood. She received the Mary McEvoy Service to the Field Award.
Sarah Basler is an education consultant at Vanderbilt University across projects in the Hemmeter lab. On the Education Innovation, and Research grant in partnership with Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, Sarah works as an external coach. She provides support to the coaches to implement Practice-Based Coaching around Pyramid Model practices. Sarah also supports the National Center on Early Childhood Development, Teaching, and Learning (NCECDTL) as a facilitator of the Practice-Based Coaching community on MyPeers and provides training for the Coaching Corner Webinar Series. She previously served as a coach and IV data manager on the Embedded Instruction for Early Learning project. Prior to joining Hemmeter lab, Sarah was an Assistant Director of a university childcare program, a curriculum coordinator, and an early childhood teacher.
Mid-Cumberland Head Start
Sarah Goad has been a pre-k teacher with head start for 6 years where she has taught children from ages 3-5 years old with many different abilities. She earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education and early childhood education from Eastern Michigan University and has begun working on her Master's degree in curriculum and instruction at Middle Tennessee University. She has had trainings in the Pyramid Model and Conscious Discipline through Vanderbilt University and has been implementing those practices in her classroom for several years. Sarah has a passion for helping children be their best selves and for them to get the head start they need to be successful in school.
Mid-Cumberland Head Start
Haley Munday, B.S., is currently transitioning to the Staff Development Coach position with Mid-Cumberland Head Start. She spent 3 years in the Early Head Start classroom as the Lead Teacher. She is attending East Tennessee State University to obtain her masters degree in Early Childhood Education. Haley has spent the last 10 years working in various classrooms, primarily focused on at-risk children and families. She also spent 3 years living abroad in Australia and New Zealand as a nanny and a teacher in a Reggio Emilia Preschool. Haley is passionate about incorporating Pyramid Model Practices in the classroom and supporting the social emotional development of all children. Her strengths lie in finding teachable moments during typical routines and forming strong relationships with children and families.
